Beijing, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Global Service Trade Summit 2026 took place in Beijing on September 10, featuring a keynote address by Chinese Vice Premier Ting Shweiyang. He underscored the significance of service trade as a vital component of international commerce, noting its increasing role in global economic growth and industrial advancement.
Ting pointed out that China is actively promoting the development of service trade. He highlighted that the openness of the service sector is deepening and expanding, leading to a rise in the scale of service trade and continuous improvements in its structure. This progress is creating new opportunities for countries and enterprises around the world.
During his address, Ting noted the rapid changes in the international economic and trade landscape. He emphasized that the swift growth of service trade and the promotion of open collaboration in the service industry are not only essential for China but are also crucial for the entire world.
He proposed three key suggestions for elevating service trade to new heights: enhancing high-quality development in the service industry, fostering inclusive cooperation to create new opportunities, and leveraging digital and intelligent technologies as a new engine for service trade growth.
The summit also featured remarks from Yin Li, Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, and various global leaders, including Burundi’s President Évariste Ndayishimiye, Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, and Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Pulev. They participated either in person or via video.
On the same day, Ting met with Alexander Pulev and Constantino Chiwenga, expressing China’s readiness to strengthen traditional friendships, enhance strategic mutual trust, and respect each other’s core interests and major concerns. He reiterated China’s willingness to advance modernization on a mutually beneficial basis. Foreign political leaders expressed their commitment to valuing friendly relations with China and deepening practical cooperation across various sectors.
The 2026 Global Service Trade Summit was jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Government, the Ministry of Commerce of China, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), attracting around 800 participants from China and abroad.
