New Delhi, August 3: Olympic medalist boxer Vijender Singh has raised concerns over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s silence regarding the performance of Indian athletes at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He emphasized that the nation’s sporting achievements should transcend political differences.
Vijender took to social media platform X to express his thoughts, stating, “Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party often speak about the youth of the country, yet there has not been a single congratulatory message or tweet from you regarding the outstanding performance of Indian athletes at the Commonwealth Games 2026. When India’s youth are proudly waving the tricolor, it is our collective responsibility to uplift their spirits beyond politics.”
The former boxer, who won India’s first Olympic medal in boxing, shared this post at a time when Indian athletes were receiving accolades for their remarkable performances at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Previously, Vijender had congratulated the Indian boxing team for their historic achievements in the games. In another post, he remarked, “The responsibility has been successfully handed over. Indian boxers have made history by winning a total of 10 medals, including 7 gold and 3 silver, at CWG 2026. Heartfelt congratulations to the entire team—your hard work, passion, and respect for the tricolor have made the entire nation proud.”
The Indian boxing team delivered its best performance at the Commonwealth Games, achieving a historic milestone by winning seven gold and three silver medals.
Notably, Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain also made history by becoming the third Indian boxer to win medals at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games, following in the footsteps of Vijender Singh and legendary boxer M.C. Mary Kom.
Vijender concluded his illustrious career with an Olympic medal, three Commonwealth Games medals, and two Asian Games medals, becoming India’s first Olympic boxing medalist by winning bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
India has completed its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, finishing fourth in the overall medal tally with a total of 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze).
