Tehran, August 3: Iranian President Masoud Pagehshkian has emphasized the necessity for the United States to adhere to the peace agreement (MOU) signed between the two nations.
In a post on the social media platform X, he stated that there is a consensus among members of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council regarding the MOU.
According to a report by the Xinhua news agency, Pagehshkian believes this MOU will serve as a focal point for Iran’s foreign relations in the future.
He remarked, “We must compel the enemy to honor what they have signed. This MOU will enhance the security of our country, region, and allies.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Acting Defense Minister Syed Majid Ibn al-Raza stated on Sunday that Tehran considers every threat from its adversaries to be real and serious. He dismissed claims that these threats are merely psychological warfare.
Al-Raza wrote on X, “We will neither be surprised nor remain inactive. We use threats as a basis to enhance our preparedness, strengthen our deterrent capabilities, and develop our power.”
This statement follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks about avoiding new attacks against Iran. Trump stated on Truth Social that the U.S. is fully prepared to act against the Islamic Republic of Iran with military force at a level not seen since World War II.
However, he also mentioned that he had postponed an attack at the request of Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, referring to a forthcoming agreement that includes the immediate and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear threat.
Earlier, U.S. media reports indicated that the U.S. and Israel might initiate attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure over the weekend.
On June 18, Iran and the U.S. signed the MOU, which required both countries to engage in negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement. However, recent tensions have left the outcome of these discussions uncertain.
Last month, the U.S. military conducted several attacks on Iranian positions, claiming these were responses to Iranian assaults on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The aim was to diminish Iran’s capacity to threaten commercial shipping. In retaliation, Iran targeted U.S. military bases and locations in the region with missile and drone strikes.
