Tehran, August 3: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, announced that discussions between Iran and Oman regarding the Hormuz Strait have reached their final stages.
According to the official news agency IRNA, Araghchi stated during a cabinet meeting on Sunday that the negotiations have progressed significantly and are now nearing completion.
In an interview with state-run IRIB TV, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei elaborated on the Iran-Oman talks. He emphasized that reaching an agreement between the two nations is not related to the reopening or closure of maritime routes.
Baghaei mentioned that Iran and Oman are working on establishing a “new route” under a traffic separation scheme in the strait. This plan aims to ensure the sovereign rights of both parties while safeguarding Iran’s national interests and security.
Iran’s acting Defense Minister, Seyyed Majid Abna al-Reza, remarked on Sunday that Tehran considers every threat from its “enemies” as “real and significant,” rejecting the notion that these threats are merely psychological warfare.
Abna al-Reza stated on the social media platform X, “We will neither be surprised nor remain silent. We use threats as a basis to enhance our preparedness, strengthen our resilience, and increase our power.”
His comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that he had agreed not to launch new attacks on Iran.
Following joint attacks by the U.S. and Israel against Iran on February 28, Tehran has tightened its grip on the strait.
Last month, the U.S. military conducted multiple strikes on Iranian positions, claiming these actions were in response to attacks on vessels in the strait by Iran. The objective was to diminish Iran’s capability to pose threats to commercial shipping. In retaliation, Iran targeted U.S. military bases and facilities in the region with missile and drone strikes.
