London, August 3: Chelsea FC has officially confirmed the signing of Argentine international Valentino Barco from RC Strasbourg. The midfielder has signed a contract that extends until 2033.
The 22-year-old player will join manager Xabi Alonso and his new teammates during the pre-season. Barco began his career at Boca Juniors in Argentina. After progressing through the academy, he made his professional debut at the age of 16 and moved to England in 2024 to join Brighton & Hove Albion, where he won several titles.
While residing on the Sussex coast, he spent some time on loan at Sevilla and RC Strasbourg. Following an impressive performance in the 2024/25 season, which helped Strasbourg secure a spot in European football, he permanently joined the club. Last season, Barco contributed to 12 goals in 43 matches across all competitions. His outstanding club performance earned him a spot on Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He was part of the Strasbourg team that reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League last season.
Barco was the youngest player on the Argentine team that reached the finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Argentina’s dream of winning the trophy for the second consecutive time was dashed as they lost 1-0 to Spain. So far, Barco has represented Argentina’s senior team five times. Earlier this year, he scored two goals in victories against Zambia and Iceland, making his World Cup debut in a group stage win against Jordan.
In an international friendly against Zambia, Barco scored his first goal for the senior team, contributing to a 5-0 victory. He also netted a goal during a World Cup warm-up match against Iceland in June 2026.
