PM Modi Praises Indian Athletes for Historic Performance at CWG 2026

New Delhi, August 3: The Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 has been a memorable event for India. Despite the absence of wrestling, badminton, and shooting, the country secured a total of 39 medals, including 13 golds. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian team’s remarkable performance at the CWG.

On his social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi expressed pride in the Indian athletes, stating, “We are proud of our team’s performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. It is delightful that India has won 39 medals, including 13 gold medals. Congratulations to all medal winners. Throughout the games, our talented athletes displayed exceptional skill, determination, and dedication. Their hard work will continue to inspire our youth. I wish the entire Indian team the best for future endeavors. May they keep performing at their best and elevate the nation’s pride.”

The Commonwealth Games 2026 was historic for India in many ways. Indian boxers excelled, winning a total of 10 medals, including 7 golds. This marks the first time India has achieved 7 golds in boxing. Additionally, the country won two gold medals in judo for the first time in CWG history. Asmita Devi secured the first gold medal for India in judo, while Harsh Singh also succeeded in winning gold.

Furthermore, Gulveer Singh became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in track and field at the same Commonwealth Games. The long-distance runner first claimed a silver medal in the 10,000-meter race, followed by a bronze in the 5,000-meter race, making him the first Indian to medal in the latter event. In weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu achieved a hat-trick of golds, while Lovepreet set a new record in the snatch round, winning silver.
