Vietnam Affirms Strong Ties with India, Emphasizing Friendship and Cooperation

Hanoi, June 24: Vietnam’s National Assembly President, Tran Thanh Man, has expressed that Vietnam places great importance on its relationship with India, considering it a top priority. He described India as a “loyal, reliable, and long-standing friend,” highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

According to Vietnam Pictorial, Tran Thanh Man made these remarks during a meeting with India’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Shering Wangchuk Sherpa, in Hanoi. He praised Ambassador Sherpa’s efforts to strengthen Vietnam-India relations, particularly noting his active role in coordinating arrangements during President To Lam’s recent visit to India.

Tran Thanh Man extended his best wishes to India’s Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, expressing his desire to welcome Indian parliamentary leaders to Vietnam in the near future.

He expressed happiness over the significant progress in Vietnam-India relations in recent years, especially after President To Lam’s visit to India, which elevated their partnership to the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership level.

Tran Thanh Man stated that Vietnam’s National Assembly will work alongside India’s Parliament to implement agreements and shared understandings reached by the leaders of both countries. He also discussed enhancing cooperation in areas such as defense and security, education, health, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

During the meeting, Shering Wangchuk Sherpa conveyed an invitation from Om Birla for Tran Thanh Man to visit India. He emphasized that the close relationship between Vietnam’s National Assembly and India’s Parliament reflects the strong connection between the people of both nations.

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “People are the most important part of any partnership. The close ties between Vietnam’s National Assembly and India’s Parliament demonstrate the deep connection between our peoples.” Ambassador Shering W. Sherpa met with National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man today.

The post further noted, “The Ambassador handed over an invitation from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to Tran Thanh Man to visit India. The Indian government places great importance on this visit and is fully committed to strengthening relations between the two parliaments.”

India and Vietnam have maintained a long-standing and friendly relationship, which has been elevated to the status of an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (ECSP). The ties were further solidified during President To Lam’s visit to India in May.
