Beijing, September 2: The 26th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the “SCO+” conference took place on September 1 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered speeches at both events. In his address, he presented a four-point proposal for the development of the SCO and offered three suggestions to enhance its role.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO’s establishment. Evolving from a regional security cooperation framework, the SCO has transformed into a new type of regional cooperation organization. As a founding member, China continues to contribute its wisdom and strength to the development of the SCO.
During the current summit, Xi Jinping outlined four key ideas. First, prioritize development to create opportunities for shared prosperity. Second, focus on security to establish a universally safe environment. Third, emphasize humanity to strengthen the foundation of friendship across generations. Lastly, prioritize dialogue and coordination to improve fair and orderly governance. Each idea aligns with the implementation of four global initiatives, presenting a “Chinese proposal” to enhance the high-quality development of the SCO.
Development is the key to solving all problems. Security and cooperation form the foundation of the SCO. Additionally, the diversity of civilizations and cultures is a hallmark of the SCO family. The trend towards a multipolar world is now irreversible.
A more united and vibrant SCO is fully capable of contributing significantly to the promotion of global multipolarity.
In this context, at the “SCO+” conference, Xi Jinping presented three suggestions. First, enhance prosperity and development across Eurasia through the strength of the SCO. Second, boost the development of the Global South through the wisdom of the SCO. Third, lead improvements in global governance through SCO actions. Analysts believe these three suggestions will promote the SCO’s role in fostering a more equitable and just global governance system.
After 25 years, the SCO stands at a new starting point. China aims to implement the four global initiatives while upholding the “Shanghai Spirit” with member countries, contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to improve global governance and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
