Tehran, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Iran has sharply criticized the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), labeling its assertions regarding the Strait of Hormuz as false and absurd. Iranian officials have made it clear that they maintain total control over this vital maritime route, stating that no vessel can pass through without Iran’s permission.
Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces, refuted CENTCOM’s claims that U.S. forces facilitated the transport of over one billion barrels of oil through the Strait in the past two months. He emphasized that the initiative and control of this key waterway remain firmly in Iran’s hands.
In a statement made on Saturday, General Shekarchi described CENTCOM’s recent claims about providing security to vessels carrying oil from the Strait as “false” and “absurd.” He suggested that these assertions are more indicative of a failed psychological campaign rather than a reflection of reality. The general argued that such statements aim to bolster the morale of U.S. troops, who he described as “tired and weakened,” while trying to justify the significant economic and humanitarian costs incurred by the U.S. in the region.
Earlier, CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper had claimed on social media that U.S. forces had assisted in the movement of over one billion barrels of oil through the Strait and provided security for more than 2,000 commercial vessels. He also stated that mines had been cleared from major maritime routes, allowing thousands of ships to safely navigate the area.
The ongoing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz highlight the strategic importance of this maritime corridor, which is crucial for global oil transportation.
