
New Delhi, June 24: A delegation associated with a student organization met with Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday for a courtesy visit. The discussion centered on the role of youth in national reconstruction and contemporary issues in higher education.
The delegation from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) engaged in a detailed and positive dialogue with the Vice President about various initiatives and campaigns run by the organization across the country. They also addressed several topics related to Punjab University.
Included in the delegation were ABVP National President Prof. Raghuraj Kishore Tiwari and National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki. This meeting marked the first formal interaction between the ABVP delegation and the Vice President since he assumed office. The representatives elaborated on the organizational expansion of ABVP, movements for student welfare, and the constructive participation of students in various sectors of national life.
The delegation informed the Vice President that the Students Experience in Interstate Living program, run by the ABVP, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The organization stated that this initiative has been a significant medium for fostering emotional unity, cultural dialogue, and national integration among students from various regions, especially in the Northeast and the rest of India.
They also highlighted the growing challenge of digital dependency among youth. The ABVP shared details about its “Screen Time to Activity Time” campaign, aimed at encouraging students to move away from mobile and screen-based lifestyles towards sports, physical activities, social responsibility, and creative engagement.
Additionally, the delegation provided information on various upcoming national campaigns and programs. They outlined plans for nationwide events commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, and the unique contributions of the warrior queen Rani Abbakka. They also discussed the ABVP’s major campaign, “Mission Sahasi,” which has provided self-defense training to over one million female students.
The Vice President was informed about plans to expand this initiative nationwide. Key issues related to Punjab University were also prominently discussed. The delegation advocated for representation of elected student representatives in the university’s senate and the expansion of hostel infrastructure to accommodate the increasing student population.
They emphasized the need for timely and regular appointments for vacant teaching positions and the establishment of a state-of-the-art center for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The discussion also included the establishment of a Yoga and Mindfulness Center to enhance students’ overall development and mental health, along with a student welfare and mental health support center staffed with permanent counselors.
