
Dehradun, July 2: A comprehensive mock drill was conducted in Tehri Garhwal on Thursday to strengthen disaster management preparations across the state and to test the effectiveness of coordination among various departments.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the preparations for the mock drill, emphasizing the need for all departments and agencies to remain on alert due to Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions. He stated that such drills enhance readiness to effectively handle disaster situations and improve coordination among different departments. The Chief Minister acknowledged the commendable work done by all departments and rescue teams during past disasters in the state.
During the event, Dhami appreciated the readiness of all districts, noting that incidents like road blockages, cloudbursts, and landslides are common in the state. He stressed that mock drills prepare everyone for these scenarios and are extremely helpful. Timely action is crucial to minimize loss of life and property. He instructed that timely information should be communicated to affected areas, and every citizen should be made aware and involved in disaster management efforts. The Chief Minister participated virtually from all districts.
Disaster Management Minister Madan Kaushik remarked that all districts had made excellent preparations for the mock drill and effectively followed the prescribed guidelines. He stated that Uttarakhand is among the leading states in disaster management, with all departments fulfilling their responsibilities with sensitivity and dedication. He urged officials to work with utmost vigilance and proper preparations during the monsoon season.
Additional District Magistrate Shailendra Negi reported that the mock drill simulated disaster scenarios such as landslides, cloudbursts, and floods, allowing for practice in relief and rescue operations. Participants included district administration, police, SDRF, fire services, health department, public works department, electricity, water institutions, municipal bodies, education department, and other relevant departments.
The simulated disaster scenarios included a cloudburst and landslide in the village of Jakhnyali in the Ghansali tehsil, a vehicle/road accident in the village of Mulyagaon on NH-07 in Devprayag, road blockages due to slides in Narendra Nagar-Baghdhar, and additional water discharge from the Tehri Dam in Devprayag/Narendra Nagar.
The objective of the mock drill was to test the rapid response of various departments, resource availability, communication systems, relief and rescue operations, and coordination mechanisms, ensuring effective and timely action in the event of a real disaster.
The Additional District Magistrate instructed all relevant departments to ensure active participation in the mock drill and to carry out their assigned responsibilities with seriousness and efficiency.
Present at the event were SSP Shweta Chaubey, CMO Dr. Shyam Vijay, ASP Deepak Kumar, SDM Kamlesh Mehta, CISF representatives, and Disaster Management Officer Brijesh, along with other relevant officials both physically and virtually.
