Uttarakhand Conducts Mock Drill to Tackle Natural Disasters

Mussoorie, July 2: A mock drill was conducted in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, on Thursday to prepare for natural disasters like heavy rainfall and landslides. Led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rahul Anand, the drill aimed to assess the response to potential disaster situations.

Anand informed reporters that the mock drill involved personnel from various departments. A simulated scenario was created where 15 passengers were trapped in a bus due to a landslide, and a small vehicle fell into a gorge with four passengers on board. The drill demonstrated the rescue efforts for the four severely injured passengers in the vehicle.

He noted that the authorities received information about the incident at 9:30 AM, prompting immediate action. Within half an hour, all relevant officials arrived at the scene to initiate the rescue operation, which lasted for thirty minutes and successfully saved all individuals involved. Several people sustained serious injuries and were promptly hospitalized. Overall, the performance of all department officials during the mock drill was commendable.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rahul Anand emphasized that Mussoorie has deep gorges and typically experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. The drill was intended to test the preparedness of the officials. The entire team was ready to handle situations arising from heavy rainfall. The rescue operation was executed successfully.

Additionally, he reviewed all preparations for the monsoon. All officials met with the District Magistrate to assess readiness. The administration’s control room is now operational and continuously staffed. All equipment has been kept ready for any emergencies.
