Uttar Pradesh Launches Statewide Catch-Up Learning Program to Bridge Learning Gaps

Lucknow, June 16: The Uttar Pradesh government is set to embark on a significant initiative aimed at addressing learning gaps among students. This statewide ‘Catch-Up Learning Campaign’ will commence in July 2026, featuring a 15-day intensive review program for all students. Following this, from August 2026 to January 2027, schools will conduct daily catch-up sessions lasting 20 to 30 minutes.

The primary goal of this initiative is to bring students who have not achieved the expected academic proficiency back to mainstream learning levels. This action plan aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and the NCFSE 2023, ensuring that academic support is tailored to each student’s learning needs. The state government emphasizes that timely identification and resolution of learning gaps are crucial to prevent hindrance in children’s future educational progress. A well-structured and outcome-oriented strategy will be implemented at the school level, focusing on the real challenges of learning.

This new phase of the state’s education reform program goes beyond mere enrollment and basic facilities. It is dedicated to enhancing actual learning outcomes for children. Following initiatives like the Nipun Bharat Mission, teacher training, and digital monitoring, the Catch-Up Learning Campaign is viewed as a vital step towards a quality and inclusive education system.

An official stated that the teaching approach will not be confined to textbooks. Instead, it will incorporate local contexts, daily life experiences, and activity-based learning. The learning process will be made more engaging and effective by utilizing teaching materials, math kits, library books, charts, posters, and local resources.

Additionally, the program will promote play-based activities, storytelling, illustrations, writing, group work, and participatory teaching methods. Special emphasis will be placed on identifying and addressing students’ academic difficulties. Through error analysis, the reasons for students falling behind will be understood. Strategies such as “I do, we do, you do,” peer learning, and cooperative learning will be employed to foster confidence, collaboration, and problem-solving skills among children.

To ensure the program’s effectiveness, baseline and end-line assessments of students will be conducted, with regular documentation of their progress. ARPs, SRGs, DIET mentors, and block education officers will periodically review the initiative. School management committees and parents will also be involved to create a conducive learning environment for children both at school and home.
