New Initiative to Transform Cow Shelters into Rural Industry Hubs in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, June 16: The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has launched a new initiative aimed at linking cow protection with rural economy and job creation. A major cow-based industry will be developed in each district, tailored to local resources and needs. The Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission has completed a comprehensive evaluation of cow shelters across the state and is now preparing to implement district-specific plans under the “One District, One Innovation” model.

This initiative, aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, aims to transform cow shelters from mere centers for the protection of stray cattle into robust hubs for production, employment, natural farming, and rural entrepreneurship. A detailed study has been conducted on the available land, cattle, water resources, Panchgavya units, and local market potential in the state’s cow shelters.

Shyam Bihari Gupta, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission, stated that unique innovation models are being developed for each district based on statewide inspections and assessments. In districts with higher potential, biogas production, eco-paint manufacturing, organic fertilizers, vermicomposting, cow dung-based products, and Panchgavya products will be promoted. This will foster the development of small industries at the local level and create new job opportunities for rural youth within their own districts.

He emphasized that the district-specific innovation model aims to convert local resources into income and employment. The plan will involve training women self-help groups, youth, and rural entrepreneurs in production, processing, and marketing processes. This will invigorate self-employment and entrepreneurship in rural areas.

The Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission believes that if this model succeeds, it will enhance the economic self-sufficiency of cow shelters, promote natural farming, and strengthen the rural economy. Additionally, each district will develop a distinct cow-based identity, providing market access for local products while also creating new avenues for job generation. This initiative by the state government is seen as a significant step towards advancing cow protection, rural development, and the goal of a self-reliant India, thereby laying a new foundation for economic activities in villages.
