Monsoon

The monsoon has now fully arrived in Uttar Pradesh, bringing welcome relief from the scorching heat — but also raising concerns of heavy rain and thunderstorms across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for 33 districts, with residents advised to stay cautious.

Monsoon

The southwest monsoon entered Uttar Pradesh via Sonbhadra district on June 18 and has rapidly advanced, with cloud cover and showers being reported from both eastern and western parts of the state. Daytime temperatures have dipped noticeably, offering respite from the intense summer.

Districts Under Heavy Rain Alert

The IMD has predicted rainfall across all districts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, with some areas likely to witness heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Heavy rain alerts have been issued for the following districts:
Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Pratapgarh, Chandauli, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Lalitpur.

The Meteorological Department has also warned of lightning strikes in various areas and urged people to take precautions during thunderstorms.

Rainfall Lowers Temperatures in Several Regions

On Thursday, heavy rainfall led to a significant temperature drop in many parts of the state. The highest recorded rainfall was in Firozabad, which received 120 mm of rain. Light to moderate rain was also observed in major cities including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Firozabad, Etawah, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Bareilly, Sitapur, Lucknow, Barabanki, Bahraich, Balrampur, and Siddharthnagar.

Public Advisory

Given the potential for severe weather conditions, authorities advise residents in affected districts to:

  • Stay indoors during heavy rain and thunderstorms

  • Avoid sheltering under trees during lightning activity

  • Keep emergency supplies ready in case of local waterlogging or power outages

  • Stay updated with local weather reports
