Patna, June 22: The capital of Bihar, Patna, is currently experiencing a relentless heatwave that is significantly impacting daily life. The extreme temperatures are particularly affecting school children. To safeguard their health, schools for younger students in Patna and Gaya have been closed.
Patna’s District Magistrate, Kundan Kumar, issued a significant directive on Sunday regarding schools in the area. According to the order from the Patna district administration, all government and private schools for students up to the eighth grade will remain closed. Additionally, all pre-schools will also be closed during this period. This order will remain in effect until June 27.
In Gaya, the district administration has announced that all government and non-government schools, pre-schools, Anganwadi centers, and coaching institutions will suspend all educational activities for grades up to eight from June 22 to June 25. However, classes for grades nine to twelve will continue until 11:00 AM with necessary precautions in place.
The district administration has instructed school managements to ensure compliance with these orders and prioritize the health and safety of students.
According to the Patna Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded in Patna on Sunday was 40.9 degrees Celsius, while Kaimur reached 41.6 degrees, Gaya recorded 40.2 degrees, and Buxar noted 40.6 degrees Celsius.
The department forecasts that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures across many locations in the state over the next two to three days. After that, a decrease of two to three degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is expected. There is also no anticipated change in minimum temperatures across various locations in the state during the next three to four days.
