Kathmandu, August 30: The fourth shipment of relief materials from India for those affected by floods in Nepal has been delivered to the relevant authorities.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced, “The fourth flight carrying 11 tons of relief supplies has arrived in Nepal. This shipment is part of the ongoing assistance campaign following the devastating floods.”
Included in this relief consignment are a tunnel technical team equipped for search and rescue operations, as well as a team of forensic experts for DNA analysis. The supplies also consist of blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets, and sanitation kits.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar informed via the social media platform ‘X’ that the fourth relief flight had reached Kathmandu. He stated, “This flight has arrived with essential materials and technical support to assist Nepal’s ongoing relief and rescue operations.”
Before the Indian Air Force’s C-130 aircraft departed for Nepal, Jaishankar shared on ‘X’ that the plane was carrying search and rescue equipment along with a team of tunnel specialists, forensic experts for DNA analysis, and forensic tools. Additionally, the aircraft was loaded with blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets, and sanitation kits.
Jaishankar also noted that 16 trucks carrying necessary equipment for a 230-foot long single-lane modular steel bridge have already reached Nepal. He mentioned that equipment for the establishment of seven more Bailey bridges will be sent soon, along with the technical teams responsible for their installation.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has now delivered a total of 68.5 tons of relief materials to Kathmandu by air. This includes essential medicines, portable generators, food packets, water purification tablets, and technical equipment.
Jaishankar reaffirmed, “Our support for Nepal’s relief and rescue efforts will continue.”
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of Nepal reported that the severe floods on August 26 have resulted in 734 fatalities, with 2,498 individuals still unaccounted for, including 589 foreign nationals.
