Amritsar, August 30: A cleanliness drive was launched in Amritsar’s historic Jallianwala Bagh on Sunday, led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Ajay Gupta. He paid tribute to the martyrs and emphasized the importance of community involvement in the initiative. The event was attended by several public representatives, including the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation, Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia.
Speaking to reporters, Gupta stated, “In Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and our national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, we have initiated a cleanliness campaign. Today, we have conducted a cleanliness drive in our constituency.”
He highlighted the significance of the area, mentioning that it houses sacred sites like Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and Sri Durgiana Tirth. “This land is rich with the legacy of Gurus, saints, and martyrs. More than 100,000 devotees and tourists visit daily, making it essential to keep the city clean,” he added.
Gupta urged the public, saying, “Let us all work together to maintain the cleanliness of this holy city. No campaign can succeed without public cooperation. I encourage everyone to avoid littering and to ensure others do the same.”
Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia echoed these sentiments, stating that Amritsar is a city of Gurus and saints. He emphasized that both the Municipal Corporation and the AAP government are committed to cleanliness. “This is not just the government’s responsibility; it is a public awareness campaign that requires community involvement,” he said.
Bhatia expressed hope that with the combined efforts of the Municipal Corporation, government, and citizens, Amritsar could become the cleanest and most beautiful city in the country. He assured that such cleanliness drives would continue, with awareness programs planned for every ward.
