New Delhi, August 30: A fire erupted early Sunday morning at a garment store located in a three-story building in the Old Seelampur area of Delhi. Fire services dispatched four fire engines to the scene upon receiving the report. Officials confirmed that firefighters successfully contained the blaze.
According to the Delhi Fire Department, the fire was reported around 8:21 to 8:22 AM from a building being used as a warehouse for kurtis in the Shahdara district.
Fire department official Anoop Singh stated that the situation was quite challenging when the team arrived. The narrow streets and intense flames made firefighting difficult.
“We received a call about a fire inside a building functioning as a kurti garment warehouse around 8:21 or 8:22 AM. The situation was extremely dangerous upon arrival, and we faced significant challenges bringing the fire engine to the site,” Singh explained.
He noted that firefighters managed to position the vehicle close to the building and laid out hoses to begin extinguishing the flames. Five hose lines were deployed to control the fire.
“The smoke was overwhelming, but we have now brought the fire under control,” the official added.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries from the Old Seelampur incident. Fire officials are currently assessing the premises and the extent of damage caused by the fire.
In a separate incident late at night, a massive fire broke out at a timber market near the Capital Park Metro Station in Delhi. The flames spread from the first to the third floor, prompting the deployment of 20 to 22 fire engines to the scene. Firefighters worked diligently to manage the situation, and again, no casualties were reported.
Earlier this month, a fire in a rented premises in Raghuveer Nagar resulted in the deaths of two e-rickshaw drivers. The victims were reportedly charging portable e-rickshaw batteries when the incident occurred.
According to Delhi Police, a PCR call about the fire in Raghuveer Nagar’s R-17 on the first floor was received around 5:24 AM. Following the alert, the investigating officer and police personnel promptly arrived at the scene. Two injured individuals were found, identified as 17-year-old Mo. Sufaid and 38-year-old Mo. Sahmad, both from Bhagalpur, Bihar.
Both were working as e-rickshaw drivers and sustained severe injuries in the fire. The police have initiated an investigation into the causes of the incident, including the charging of portable e-rickshaw batteries in the rented premises.
