PM Modi Highlights Avocado Farming in Mann Ki Baat, Praises Innovative Farmers

New Delhi, August 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the rising popularity of avocados and the new opportunities it presents for farmers in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday. He emphasized that innovative farmers have discovered a new recipe for income through avocados. The fruit not only enhances the flavor of your toast but also boosts farmers’ earnings.

During the program, PM Modi remarked, “Avocados are becoming quite the sensation these days. Previously, few knew about this fruit, and its value and demand were low. Today, it is a common sight on dining tables and has become a favorite in health and premium markets. This is very beneficial for our farmer brothers and sisters.”

He cited the example of Vardharaj from Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, who had been cultivating tomatoes and bananas for years. After seeing avocado crops at a friend’s farm, he researched the fruit on YouTube. He has since produced about 4 tons of avocados and is now supplying them directly to local stores. With new crops, scientific advice, and direct marketing, his small farm’s income has transformed completely.

PM Modi also mentioned farmer Chandrasekharan from Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, who started growing avocados on half a hectare of land. He is receiving good prices, leading to increased earnings.

Referring to some farmers in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, he noted, “Some of our farmer brothers and sisters have planted avocados among their coffee plantations, allowing them to earn extra income alongside coffee and black pepper.”

The Prime Minister concluded by stating that while we often hear about avocado toast in city restaurants, our innovative farmers have found a new recipe for income through avocados. This not only enhances the taste of your toast but also increases farmers’ earnings.
