UN Chief Urges Continued Dialogue Between the US and Iran

New Delhi, April 14: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for ongoing dialogue between the United States and Iran. This appeal was made by his spokesperson.

Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reported that no agreement was reached during the Islamabad talks held in Pakistan, but it was evident that both parties are seriously engaged in discussions. This is considered a positive and significant step towards further negotiations.

He emphasized that deep differences exist between the two nations, making an immediate agreement unlikely. Therefore, it is essential to continue the dialogue to gradually find a resolution. The spokesperson also noted that after weeks of devastation and tension, it has become clear that there is no military solution to this conflict.

According to news agency Xinhua, Dujarric stated that a ceasefire must be maintained at all costs, and all activities violating it should be halted immediately.

He further stressed that all parties involved in this conflict must respect the freedom of navigation in all maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law.

The spokesperson mentioned that disruptions in maritime trade through this strait are affecting the entire world. This is weakening the global economy and increasing insecurity in various regions.

He added that interruptions in the supply of fertilizers and their raw materials have deepened the food security crisis for millions of vulnerable people worldwide. Additionally, obstacles in fuel, transportation, and supply chains are continuously raising the cost of living.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Meanwhile, the US has announced plans to implement measures to stop ships from accessing Iranian ports, effective Monday.

According to the United Nations, approximately 20,000 sailors remain stranded on vessels in the Persian Gulf, facing increasing difficulties every day.
