New Delhi, April 14: Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat made a significant statement ahead of the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway in Dehradun. He called for the expressway to be named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
According to Rawat, this gesture would serve as a true tribute to Babasaheb on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Rawat noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the expressway today. He expressed concerns that while the project would enhance connectivity, it might also exacerbate traffic jams and congestion in Dehradun.
He warned that the increasing crowd and traffic in the city could make life more challenging and suffocating for residents. This situation could directly impact daily commutes and public life. Rawat also pointed out that the economy of the surrounding hills is feeling the effects of this congestion.
He mentioned that the speed of vehicles leaving Dehradun is decreasing, which could lead to a rise in fares, placing an additional financial burden on regular commuters.
However, he clarified that if the expressway is named after Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, people would be willing to endure these inconveniences. He described this as a significant tribute from Uttarakhand to Babasaheb.
Rawat urged the government to take concrete steps to address traffic and transportation issues, keeping public interest in mind, to provide relief to the citizens.
