Udhayanidhi Stalin Faces Political Backlash Over Alleged Comments on Actress Trisha

New Delhi, August 4: The political storm surrounding Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and Secretary of the DMK Youth Wing, intensified following his alleged comments about actress Trisha Krishnan and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Udhayanidhi was taken into custody for questioning by police on Tuesday, prompting the DMK to defend its leader and question the police’s actions. Meanwhile, leaders from AIADMK and Shiv Sena condemned the remarks as “extremely reprehensible.”

Udhayanidhi was taken from his residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, amid accusations of making offensive comments about the Chief Minister and the actress. The DMK’s organizational secretary, R.S. Bharti, defended Udhayanidhi, stating that his speech in Thanjavur contained no defamatory remarks. He emphasized that Udhayanidhi merely raised issues regarding the Cauvery water dispute, the Mekedatu project, and the alleged failures of the state government.

Bharti remarked, “It is the duty of the opposition leader to bring the government’s shortcomings and failures to the public’s attention. What is wrong with that?” He also pointed out that this action came just one day before the Tamil Nadu Assembly session was set to begin. According to him, the government should respond politically rather than resorting to arrests or detentions for defamation-related cases.

DMK MP T.R. Balu also expressed support for Udhayanidhi, asserting that no unparliamentary language was used during the public gathering. He claimed that the entire speech focused on the Cauvery River, water flow, and related issues. Balu suggested that the media had exaggerated the controversy and noted that Udhayanidhi did not mention any woman’s name or make such comments.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar stated that action would be taken in cases related to the harassment or disrespect of women.

AIADMK spokesperson Kalyanasundaram labeled the alleged comments as “unacceptable” and “extremely reprehensible,” asserting that such vulgar language has no place in public life, especially when directed at a political opponent or leader from another party.

Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC also criticized Udhayanidhi’s alleged remarks, stating that the comments regarding actress Trisha Krishnan were highly offensive and disrespectful to women’s dignity. She emphasized that targeting a woman’s dignity in such a manner on a public platform is unacceptable.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi mentioned that although she had not personally heard the statement, any comments aimed at a woman or regarding someone’s private relationships would be entirely objectionable.

Additionally, Shiv Sena (UBT) Legislative Council member Ambadas Danve asserted that if inappropriate statements were made against a woman, appropriate action should be taken. He emphasized that the law should apply equally to everyone, regardless of their political affiliations.
