Manila, August 4: In a recent clash in Abra province, northern Philippines, soldiers engaged with rebels, resulting in the deaths of three members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
According to officials, soldiers encountered approximately ten suspected NPA members during a search operation in the area. The ensuing firefight led to the deaths of three suspected rebels.
As reported by Xinhua News Agency, soldiers later recovered the bodies and seized three advanced firearms from the scene.
Local authorities and the military have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the authorities immediately. Security operations in the region are ongoing.
Previously, on July 30, two rebels were killed, and one was arrested during a confrontation between the military and NPA members in Oriental Mindoro province in central Philippines.
The military stated that local residents had reported the presence of an armed group in the area, prompting the operation. During this encounter, soldiers exchanged fire with around ten suspected NPA members. The remaining rebels fled, leading to a pursuit operation.
The military also reported recovering various items from the scene, including materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
On the same day, a clash between a militant group and armed farmers in Cotabato province in southern Philippines resulted in one death and two injuries due to gunfire.
A local military officer indicated that the conflict forced at least 100 families to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in relief camps. Initial investigations suggest that this clash may be linked to a long-standing land dispute between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the farmers.
The military is currently investigating which side initiated the gunfire and whether the deceased and injured were members of either group.
