New Delhi, August 4: The Delhi Police has achieved a significant success in its ongoing campaign against organized crime and gangsters. They have arrested the notorious criminal Savinder alias Baba, also known as ‘Pagal,’ linked to the Neeraj Bawana gang, following a police encounter. Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern Range) Vijay Singh announced the operation at a press conference, stating that the accused had been evading arrest for a long time and faced multiple serious criminal charges, including murder and attempted murder.
Vijay Singh explained that the Delhi Police has been actively targeting gangsters and organized crime. Based on a tip-off, the police set a trap anticipating Savinder’s arrival at a specific location. When the police signaled him to stop, he opened fire on the police team. In response, the police fired back in self-defense, injuring Savinder. He was subsequently apprehended and taken to the hospital after receiving first aid. A pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
According to the Joint Commissioner, Savinder is known in the criminal world as ‘Pagal’ due to his aggressive and violent nature. The police had information that he would fire shots into the air or ground over trivial matters to instill fear among people. He has connections with the infamous Neeraj Bawana gang and the Naveen Bali gang. Savinder was also implicated in a murder case during the arrests of Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Bali.
Savinder has a long criminal history, with over six serious cases registered against him in Delhi and Haryana. Cases were filed against him in Sonipat in 2010 and 2011, and an attempted murder case was registered in 2012 at Prashant Vihar police station. He is also accused in a murder case from Shahbad Dairy in 2016 and another murder case in Narela in 2017. Additionally, a case was registered against him by the Special Cell in 2018.
Vijay Singh noted that the police had received multiple complaints in recent days about Savinder targeting businessmen for extortion. Recently, he threatened a businessman at his home and fired a shot into the ground to create panic. The police have CCTV footage of this incident, which accelerated their search for him. Furthermore, he had threatened a property dealer for extortion shortly after. On July 22, police received information that he had threatened his own father, prompting his father to call the police for help. However, Savinder fled the scene before the police arrived.
After receiving continuous information and conducting technical surveillance, the police team from the Outer North district finally apprehended this notorious criminal following an encounter in the Alipur police station area. The success of this operation is credited to the police team working under the leadership of DCP Outer North Shobhit Saxena.
