Chennai, August 4: Political leaders, including Vaiko, the General Secretary of MDMK, CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam, and BJP State Vice President Khushboo, have criticized Udayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the opposition and Secretary of the DMK Youth Wing, for his derogatory comments about Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and actress Trisha. They emphasized that political figures should maintain decorum and dignity in public life.
In a post on the social media platform X, Vaiko condemned Udayanidhi’s remarks, stating they warranted strong denunciation. He reminded that as a leader in a constitutional position, Udayanidhi should exercise restraint in his speech and avoid language that lowers the standard of political discourse.
Vaiko pointed out that the controversial comments were made during a protest related to the Cauvery water issue and warned against using such language, which undermines the quality of public debate. He argued that the interests of Tamil Nadu could only be safeguarded if political parties set aside their differences and speak in unison.
CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam also criticized Udayanidhi, labeling the language used at the public meeting as vulgar and unacceptable. In his social media post, he described the opposition leader’s manner of speaking as reprehensible, insisting that politics should not descend into personal attacks or derogatory statements.
BJP’s Khushboo accused Udayanidhi of publicly humiliating Trisha and questioned whether he would acknowledge his mistake and apologize to the actress. She stressed that speeches that demean women must end and highlighted the responsibility of elected representatives and political leaders to uphold civil standards in public discourse.
Udayanidhi made his controversial comments during a DMK protest in Thanjavur, where he made double entendre remarks about Vijay and Trisha. Following the viral spread of the video on social media, various political parties have voiced their criticism and filed complaints against him.
