Priyanka Chaturvedi Attributes BJPs By-Election Loss to Youth Anger and Protests

New Delhi, August 4: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi recently commented on various issues, including the by-elections. She claimed that the anger and protests from the youth led to the BJP’s defeat.

Regarding the results of the Bankipur and Datia by-elections, Chaturvedi stated, “The widespread protests among students created an atmosphere of anger among the youth. This is why the BJP lost in a seat where their victory was considered certain. The fact that BJP President Nitin Nabin lost at every booth in Bankipur shows that the party did not take the youth protests seriously. The BJP needs to introspect on who within the party is responsible for this defeat.”

On the proposed protest march to the Prime Minister’s residence against the central government’s E-20 fuel policy, led by AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Chaturvedi remarked, “People have been troubled by E-20 for a long time and have raised their voices against it. The government has once again ignored this issue. We have seen protests at Jantar Mantar before, and today Arvind Kejriwal is leading this initiative.”

Chaturvedi also criticized the Karnataka Cabinet for not including any women, stating, “This is something Congress should reflect on. On one hand, we talk about half the population and equal rights. When the Cabinet was expanded, I noticed only men were present. When we discuss 33% reservation for women, their participation, leadership, and representation, why is this not reflected in ministerial positions?”

Commenting on the remarks made by Tamil Nadu‘s opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chaturvedi said, “I have not heard his comments, but if he has made any controversial statements regarding women or personal relationships, it is very objectionable. Stalin should apologize to Trisha.”

Earlier, following the court’s acquittal of Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, Chaturvedi expressed, “I am not surprised. The way people and women protesters have been fighting for so long without receiving justice, and he was allowed to remain an MP, is shocking. When he did not receive a ticket, his son was given one instead. Therefore, it is not surprising that there were shortcomings in the investigation that led to his acquittal. The judiciary operates based on facts and evidence, and there must have been some flaws in the investigation.”
