
Lucknow, June 7: Two educators from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) have achieved significant recognition in the field of research and innovation. They have secured a place in the prestigious ‘Global Scientist Index 2025’ list, which features the top 5% of scientists worldwide. Professor Arun Tiwari from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Associate Professor Dr. Anuj Kumar Sharma from the Center for Advanced Studies have brought pride to the university on both national and international stages.
Professor Arun Tiwari, head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at IET, and Dr. Anuj Kumar Sharma, associated with the Mechatronics Department, have earned this esteemed position. Their achievement is noteworthy as they have previously been recognized in the list of top researchers released by Stanford University and Elsevier.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor J.P. Pandey, congratulated both educators, calling it a major success for the research and innovation ecosystem. The Global Scientist Index 2025 is an international scientific ranking platform published by SCI Rank Global, which evaluates the publications and impact of active researchers worldwide based on the OpenAlex database. To be included in this list, researchers must have at least ten verified research publications. The ranking is determined by a ‘normalized composite score’ based on the number of publications and citations received.
Dr. Anuj Kumar Sharma currently serves as an Associate Professor at AKTU’s Center for Advanced Studies. He is also the director of the Kalam Center for Innovation and Incubation of Startups AKTU Foundation, and he manages several key responsibilities related to academics, innovation, research, and industrial consultancy.
Dr. Sharma has been the principal investigator for six major projects funded by the Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), ICMR, SERB-DST, the Uttar Pradesh Government‘s CST, TEQIP-III, and AKTU. He has published over 125 research papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, and he holds nine approved or published patents.
Due to his contributions to research and innovation, he has consistently been included in the list of the top 2% of researchers by Elsevier and Stanford University since 2021. In 2025, he was honored with the ‘Academic Excellence Award’ by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and received the ‘Best Teacher Award’ from AKTU on Teacher’s Day.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Sharma and his team developed several useful technological products, some of which were showcased at the Raj Bhavan. For his contributions during the pandemic, he was also honored as a ‘Corona Warrior.’
The university administration believes that the achievements of Professor Arun Tiwari and Dr. Anuj Kumar Sharma are a matter of pride not only for AKTU but also for the higher education and research landscape in Uttar Pradesh. This will inspire young researchers to pursue quality research and innovation. The Vice-Chancellor has extended his congratulations to both educators.
