Washington, February 24: Recent reports have suggested that the United States may launch an attack on Iran. Several American officials have claimed that President Donald Trump is considering military options against Iran. However, President Trump has dismissed these claims.
He emphasized that any operation ordered would be “easily won.” Meanwhile, senior Democratic lawmakers have described this as a rapid move towards another war in the Middle East.
Trump stated on Truth Social, “Fake news media is running stories claiming that General Daniel Keen, sometimes referred to as Rajin, is against our war with Iran.” He labeled this reporting as “100 percent wrong.”
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon has expressed concerns about a prolonged military campaign against Iran. They advised that the military options being considered could pose risks to the U.S. and its allies, including vulnerabilities in air defense.
Reports indicate that current and former officials noted these warnings were primarily given by General Dan Keen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during meetings within the Defense Department and the National Security Council.
Trump remarked, “General Keen, like all of us, would prefer not to see war, but if a military decision against Iran is made, he believes it can be easily won.”
He added that Keen did not mention avoiding an attack on Iran or the limited strikes that have been reported; he only knows how to win, and if called upon, he would lead the charge.
Trump stated, “I make the decisions. I would prefer a deal over no deal. If we don’t make a deal, it will be a sad day for that country and its people, who are wonderful and should never have to face this.”
During this time, the President also referenced previous strikes, noting that Keen was “in charge of the Midnight Hammer, which targeted Iranian nuclear development. This is no longer development; our great B-2 bombers obliterated it.”
These comments came amid significant political opposition on Capitol Hill. U.S. Senator Chris Coons, a ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, stated, “Less than a year after the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear program, President Trump has deployed a significant military buildup of air and naval power within Iran’s reach. This raises the risk of military action.”
He questioned the government’s objectives, saying, “Congress and the American people deserve answers about our aims in Iran.” He further stated that Americans have the right to know what President Trump’s intentions are, how he plans to keep them safe, and how any military conflict will conclude.
The senator acknowledged that Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. Coons warned, “We cannot expect that a U.S. attack will force Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions. This is not a strategy; it endangers the lives of American soldiers.”
Congressman Seth Moulton also opposed the use of force. He said, “Trump is preparing to attack Iran and involve America in Iraq War 2.0. What does he think he will achieve, and at what cost? So far, we have no idea.”
Moulton argued that “the only reason we lack a deal is that Trump broke it during his first term. Now it is up to Congress to muster more courage than during George W. Bush’s misleading campaign in Iraq.”
