Sanjay Raut Criticizes BJP Over Alleged Political Maneuvering

Mumbai, June 21: Senior leader of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has sharply criticized the BJP and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding the alleged rebellion by some party MPs. In his weekly column ‘Rokhthok,’ Raut claimed that the decision of these MPs to leave the party is not a result of ideological differences but rather a consequence of political gain and pressure from power dynamics.

In an article published in ‘Saamana,’ Raut asserted that large-scale political maneuvering and bargaining have taken place to separate these MPs from the party. He stated that attempts are being made to justify defections in the name of development and regional interests, while the true objective is to gain political advantage.

According to Raut, the departure of elected representatives, who were chosen based on Shiv Sena’s ticket, the hard work of party workers, and the public support garnered under Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership, is a betrayal of the voters’ mandate.

In his article, Raut compared the politics of defection to historical traitors like Mir Jafar, Brutus, Judas, and Quisling. He noted that in the current political climate, defections and shifts in political loyalty are being portrayed as “rebellion” or “revolution,” which he argues goes against democratic values and political ethics. He emphasized that making decisions based on power equations, rather than commitment to ideology and organization, weakens democracy.

Raut accused the country of promoting “Aayarams and Gayaarams” politics, which has adversely affected political ethics and the accountability of representatives. He expressed concern that the trend of breaking representatives for the sake of acquiring or maintaining power poses a serious threat to the democratic system.

Mentioning the 60th anniversary of Shiv Sena’s founding and the centenary year of party founder Balasaheb Thackeray, Raut criticized the leaders who have left the party. He affirmed that Shiv Sena is not just a political party but a tradition of thought and struggle. Raut expressed confidence that the public will respond appropriately to such political behavior and will not forget the alleged betrayal of their mandate.
