Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Two Cousins in Damoh

Damoh, April 4: A tragic road accident on the Damoh-Patharia road resulted in the deaths of two young cousins. The incident occurred while they were returning with a cooking gas cylinder when a speeding truck collided with their motorcycle.

According to local residents and police, both young men died at the scene. The truck driver has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution on the roads and adhere to safety regulations.

The deceased have been identified as Jai Srivastava (father: Sandeep Srivastava, resident of Teen Gali, Damoh) and Prabal Srivastava (father: Pradeep Srivastava, resident of Patharia).

Police reported that the cousins were returning with the gas cylinder when a speeding truck struck their motorcycle from behind near Khojkhhedi, between Damoh and Patharia. The force of the collision was so severe that both were thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries. Local residents rushed them to Damoh District Hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Both victims were riding the motorcycle with the gas cylinder. Authorities stated that the truck driver fled the scene after the collision.

A rural investigation officer from Damoh remarked, “This is a very sad and unfortunate incident. The truck driver did not offer any assistance after the accident.”

The police have registered a case of negligence causing death, citing speeding and reckless driving. Officials have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area and witness statements to identify the fleeing truck driver.

The investigation officer warned that transporting heavy items like gas cylinders on two-wheelers is extremely dangerous. He stated, “The impact of this collision was so great that the two young men had no chance of survival. We urge the public not to carry heavy or hazardous goods on two-wheelers. It poses a threat not only to your life but also to others on the road.”

The police have initiated a detailed investigation under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
