Gautam Adani Sets Ambitious Goal for Adani Ports to Handle 1 Billion Tons of Cargo by 2030

Ahmedabad, April 4: Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, announced an ambitious target for Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ) to handle 1 billion tons of cargo by 2030. This goal was set during a celebration of the company’s historic achievement of surpassing 500 million tons.

In his address, Adani emphasized that this moment should not only be remembered for reaching the 500 million tons milestone but also as a moment to renew their commitment towards the next goal of 1 billion tons by 2030.

He noted that this occasion provides a rare opportunity to reflect on the vastness created by the group and to appreciate the extraordinary achievement of crossing the 500 million tons mark by APSEZ.

However, he made it clear that the group will not stop here, stating that the best times for APSEZ, the Adani Group, and India are yet to come.

Adani shared an emotional story about the establishment of Mundra Port, recalling his memorable overnight journeys from Ahmedabad to Mundra in an old Contessa car during the 1990s. At that time, the roads were non-existent, and the entire area was surrounded by marshy land. He described those lonely trips with his employee Malay, who would sing the title song from the Hindi blockbuster film “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar” to lighten the mood.

He added, “Somehow, amidst that vast emptiness, a song glorifying Alexander the Great became our personal anthem. Perhaps, without fully realizing it, it voiced a deeper sentiment within us – the firm belief that if destiny does not come to you, you must go out and create it yourself.”

Gautam Adani stated that great organizations are built in two phases: “First, in the mind – through hope, confidence, and conviction – and second, in the real world, where dreams materialize moment by moment, brick by brick, hand in hand.”

He further explained that the achievement being celebrated today cannot be measured solely in business terms. It is about the people – those who believed in him, walked alongside him, and built together.

Adani highlighted that milestones like 500 million tons are tied to the memories of struggle, victory, and failure, all of which define the Adani spirit. He emphasized that ultimately, the human effort put into the final stages is what enables infrastructure to operate smoothly.

He concluded by stating, “Therefore, our milestone of 500 million tons should be dedicated to all those who complete the final stage: the crane operators who work with precision under constant pressure for productivity and safety, the marine teams who manage ships, tides, channels, and schedules seamlessly, and the planners and logistics teams who navigate the complexities of hundreds of dynamic factors.”
