Reasi, April 4: The Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed another significant achievement in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking. The police team from the Ban Ganga post seized 17 grams of heroin and 1500 banned pregabalin pills during an operation aimed at making the Katra area drug-free. Two traffickers have been arrested.
According to police reports, the Ban Ganga police team set up a checkpoint in the Keri area. During the inspection, a motorcycle with registration number JK02DT-6459 was stopped. Upon searching, 17 grams of heroin were found in the possession of Rakesh Sharma (father: Ramesh Chandra, resident of Sungul Khadwani, Tehsil Akhnoor). Further investigation revealed that Vikas Kumar (father: Satpal, resident of Chougan Mohalla, Tehsil Akhnoor), who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, had 150 strips of pregabalin, totaling 1500 pills.
An FIR has been registered under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act at the Katra police station, numbered 94/2026. Both suspects have been arrested, and interrogation has commenced. The police are now working to trace their past and future contacts to reach a larger drug network.
This operation was conducted under the leadership of I/C PP Ban Ganga PSI Jyoti Chaudhary and SHO Katra police station Inspector Ranjit Singh Rao. The entire operation was closely monitored by SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishma Dubey and SP Katra Vipin Chandran, JKPS.
SSP Reasi Parmveer Singh (JKPS) congratulated the team on this success and emphasized that strict action will continue under a zero-tolerance policy against drug traffickers. He stated, “There is no place for drugs in Reasi. We are committed to creating a safe and drug-free society.”
Katra serves as the main entry point to the Vaishno Devi temple, attracting thousands of pilgrims daily. Consequently, drug trafficking poses a significant threat to both youth and tourists. The police have intensified anti-drug campaigns in Reasi district over the past few months, leading to several NDPS cases being registered.
This operation has proven to enhance the sense of security among local residents. SSP Parmveer Singh has urged all citizens to promptly inform the police if they have any information regarding drug trafficking or suspicious activities.
