Badwani, April 4: In Madhya Pradesh’s Badwani district, two separate road accidents resulted in the deaths of two tribal youths, while two others sustained serious injuries. These incidents occurred when their vehicles plunged into deep ravines.
The first accident took place late Friday night near Biliya Pani Ghat close to Golagaon, within the jurisdiction of the Pati police station. Five tribal youths were returning to Semlet village from Badwani when their car skidded off a narrow hilly road and fell into a deep gorge. Two of the youths died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Pati police station chief Ramdas Yadav reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to drowsiness or the poor condition of the road at night. He added that the car fell approximately 50-60 feet down. The challenging terrain and darkness made rescue operations difficult. The vehicle was en route to a nearby village.
On the same day, a second accident was reported in another part of the district, where a two-wheeler carrying two tribal youths skidded off the road and fell into a ravine, injuring both. An investigating officer from the Pati police station stated that these accidents highlight the unsafe conditions of the hilly and ghat roads in tribal-dominated areas of Badwani.
He emphasized that most roads lack proper guardrails, reflectors, and lighting. The police are urging the district administration to promptly identify ‘black spots’ and install safety barriers. Speeding and driver fatigue are common causes of accidents in these remote areas. They appeal to drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially when traveling at night.
Badwani, located near the Maharashtra border, has witnessed several fatal accidents on its winding hilly roads in recent months. Poor infrastructure, overloading of vehicles, and a lack of safety measures are often cited as major contributing factors to these incidents.
The police have registered cases related to both accidents and have initiated investigations. The injured youths are currently receiving treatment, and their condition is reported to be serious.
