New Delhi, August 16: The tragic death of a volunteer’s father associated with the “Fix the Schools” campaign in West Bengal has drawn significant attention. Sourav Das, the main spokesperson for the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), expressed deep sorrow over the incident, claiming that activists demanding improvements in government schools are being targeted.
In a conversation with reporters, Das stated, “We initiated a campaign called ‘Fix the Schools.’ Under this initiative, we encouraged people and parents to visit their local government schools and conduct social audits to identify areas needing improvement.”
He shared details about Abdul, a 26-year-old who had participated in the CJP’s “Chalo Sansad” protest at Jantar Mantar. As part of the campaign, he visited local government schools in West Bengal and informed teachers that he would return the next day for an audit. That night, members of the BJP allegedly attacked Abdul’s home and brutally assaulted him. When his father intervened to protect him, he was also severely beaten.
Das further revealed, “We learned yesterday that Abdul’s father’s condition had worsened, and he passed away in the evening. This is utterly condemnable. Such violence occurs because they are anti-school and anti-intellectual, but people do not believe in such thuggery. When the time comes, strict action will be taken against you.”
He emphasized that awareness is growing at the grassroots level. From Gen Alpha to Gen X and Gen Z, everyone is stepping up to fix their schools. Instead of offering help, they are taking lives.
The CJP spokesperson condemned the incident, stating, “We are running a campaign for the improvement of government schools, which should be supported by people of all political ideologies. These thugs commit such acts to intimidate the public. Why is this happening? Because they are anti-school and anti-intellectual. They believe that education is useless and everything can be achieved through violence, but people do not believe in violence.”
Das informed that a CJP delegation will meet with Abdul’s family. Led by Ashutosh Ranka, the delegation will demand that the police ensure severe punishment for the culprits. Until justice is served and those responsible are punished, the entire CJP family and the youth will stand firmly with Abdul and his family.
