Jaipur, August 16: Ashutosh Ranka, spokesperson for the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), emphasized the need for complete respect for the national anthem and national song, stating that they should never be disrespected. His comments came in response to the ongoing controversy surrounding “Vande Mataram.” He also condemned the attack on CJP volunteers in West Bengal.
Regarding allegations against Sonia Gandhi for objecting to the full rendition of “Vande Mataram” at the Congress headquarters, Ranka stated, “Vande Mataram is our national song and should not be disrespected. I do not have detailed information about that incident, as I have not seen any video, but our national anthem and song must be fully respected. The sentiments of the entire nation are tied to them, and disrespect is unacceptable.”
He further mentioned, “Our volunteer Abdul, who was consistently present at Jantar Mantar, is from the Indas police station area in Bankura district. He went to his school under the ‘Fix the School’ campaign but was denied entry. Upon returning home, he was attacked by BJP goons who severely beat him. When his father intervened to save him, he was also assaulted. Tragically, his father passed away.”
Ranka criticized the police for their inaction in this case. “This is why our entire team is heading to Bengal. We will remain there until Abdul’s family receives justice. We are not afraid of the BJP, but a party that claims to be nationalist should feel ashamed.”
He also condemned the treatment of student protest leader Jairam Mahato in Bengal on August 15, stating, “What happened to him is completely unacceptable, and we strongly condemn it. Regardless of which party is in power, you cannot treat our students so brutally or attack them. You must listen to our youth. The demands of the students from Jharkhand are entirely justified, and we have been in contact with them from day one. Our core team has stood with them since the first week.”
On the Alwar school protests, Ranka highlighted issues at a school in Thana Gazi, where classrooms have been in dilapidated condition for four years. “Three days ago, a classroom’s roof collapsed. Fortunately, no children were inside at the time, as they were all outside. Students have been demanding repairs for four years. There is a shortage of teachers, no playground for girls, and no proper route to cross the river. This is why the children are protesting. We stood in their support. Initially, our team faced threats from BJP goons, but we remained steadfast. Ultimately, the administration agreed to all the students’ demands.”
