United Nations, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has voiced significant concern regarding the escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, highlighted the Secretary-General’s worries about recent reports of deteriorating conditions in the region, which include attacks on commercial vessels and threats against maritime and energy infrastructure.
Dujarric emphasized the necessity of restoring and respecting the rights of all nations’ vessels to navigate freely in the Strait, in accordance with international law. He reiterated Guterres’s appeal for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to avoid actions or statements that could further escalate the already tense situation.
The spokesperson warned that any worsening of the conditions could severely impact civilians, regional stability, international peace and security, as well as the global economy. According to the Xinhua News Agency, Guterres urged all parties to fully utilize diplomatic means to resolve disputes through dialogue. The UN Secretariat stands ready to support any credible efforts aimed at de-escalation and finding lasting solutions.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed on Tuesday that it had captured one of the most advanced unmanned submarines operated by the U.S. military in the entrance area of the Strait of Hormuz. An official statement from IRGC’s news agency, Sepah News, described the capture as part of a complex intelligence and operational action.
The captured underwater vehicle, identified as “Dive-LD,” is said to feature some of the most advanced underwater technology in the world. The IRGC announced that images of the vehicle would be released soon.
Additionally, in a separate statement, the IRGC claimed that its air defense system shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone flying over the Strait. In response, the U.S. military confirmed that one of its underwater drones had experienced a technical failure during a survey operation the day before, but did not clarify whether the device had been captured by Iran.
