New Delhi, June 21: A seriously injured NEET candidate was given the opportunity to participate in the re-examination held in Kolkata, thanks to the initiative of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The student’s family expressed their gratitude for this humanitarian effort.
Shrishti Dubey took her exam at the Binodini Girls High School examination center in Dhakuria, Kolkata, under special arrangements. Given her critical health condition, she was seated in a separate room and provided with medical assistance. An ambulance was also stationed at the exam center.
After the exam began, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan personally called the student’s father to inquire about her condition and the examination process.
Shrishti’s father, Shri Ram Shivji Dubey, a teacher at a primary school, thanked the minister, stating, “It is because of your help that my daughter is able to take the exam today.”
The student’s mother also expressed her appreciation, noting that after Shrishti was injured in a road accident on June 14, they had little hope she would be able to sit for the exam. She mentioned, “Doctors advised us to apply for special permission so she could take the exam in hospital attire and with medical equipment.”
Dharmendra Pradhan wished the student well, encouraging her to perform excellently in the exam and aspire to become a doctor, thereby making her parents proud. He also mentioned that he would try to meet her during his visit to Kolkata.
Previously, the student’s father had written to the education minister, detailing that his daughter was involved in a serious road accident on June 14, resulting in nine broken ribs and severe lung injuries. She underwent major vascular surgery and was on artificial ventilation for some time.
In his letter, he stated that his daughter was determined to take the NEET exam under any circumstances. The hospital administration was prepared to provide necessary medical assistance with doctors and paramedical staff. He requested arrangements for her to sit on the ground floor, permission to enter in hospital clothing, and to take the exam with medical devices like a chest drain.
It is noteworthy that over 2 million candidates participated in the NEET 2026 re-exam across the country on Sunday, held under tight security due to irregularities reported in the original exam conducted on May 3.
