Inspiration Behind Sunday on Cycle Comes from Primary School Teachers, Says Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya

New Delhi, June 21: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, revealed that his inspiration for the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ initiative came from two teachers during his school days. This motivation has been crucial in successfully running the program.

On Sunday, Dr. Mandaviya shared a 19-second video on his X platform, where he was seen conversing with film actor Akshay Kumar. In the video, Mandaviya spoke about the influence of his school teachers. He stated, “I have been cycling since childhood. My inspiration came from two primary school teachers who cycled three and four kilometers to school. They maintained this routine for 20 years. Today, one is 92 years old and the other is 94. I draw inspiration for the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ program from them.”

Dr. Mandaviya and Akshay Kumar participated in an event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, marking the 12th International Yoga Day.

The ‘Sunday on Cycle’ initiative is an ambitious campaign by the central government. Every Sunday, hundreds of young people gather across New Delhi and various locations nationwide to participate in cycling rallies. The program aims to raise fitness awareness among all demographics and promote cycling as part of daily life. It also contributes to combating obesity and conveys a message of environmental conservation.

The ‘Sunday on Cycle’ campaign was launched in December 2024 by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya under the ‘Fit India Movement.’
