
New Delhi, May 28: India and Singapore have convened the 16th Defense Policy Dialogue to enhance their defense and security cooperation. During the discussions, both parties reviewed the progress of bilateral defense collaboration and explored measures to make their military partnership more effective.
The significant talks were co-chaired by India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defense, Joseph Leong. The meeting reaffirmed the long-standing strong defense relations between the two nations and engaged in extensive discussions on developing new dimensions of cooperation for the future. Both countries agreed that regular dialogue is crucial, and collaborative activities play a vital role in strengthening regional stability and mutual trust.
India and Singapore also addressed current security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. Both parties advocate for a free, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. They emphasized the importance of maritime security and the protection of international sea routes. The meeting underscored the necessity of continuously enhancing mutual cooperation and coordination to maintain regional peace and stability. Special attention was given to increasing collaboration in defense technology and modern military capabilities.
The two nations discussed potential joint cooperation in emerging technologies, AI-based military systems, cybersecurity, and digital warfare capabilities. They also considered options to promote partnerships and research collaboration between their defense industries.
Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh visited the Digital Operations Technology Center (DOTC) established under the Singapore Armed Forces’ Digital and Intelligence Service. During this visit, he was briefed on Singapore’s advanced digital military systems, data-driven operational mechanisms, and technical capabilities.
At the DOTC, the Defense Secretary observed advanced technologies related to digital warfare operations, network-based military structures, intelligence integration, cybersecurity mechanisms, and modern command and control systems. This visit is seen as significant for understanding the potential for collaboration between the Indian Armed Forces and the Singapore Armed Forces in emerging battlefield scenarios and new military technologies.
Both sides believe that digital capabilities, AI, cyber defense, and data analytics-based military decision-making systems are increasingly vital in future warfare scenarios.
It is noteworthy that defense relations between India and Singapore have strengthened consistently over the past few years. The two countries regularly conduct joint military exercises, naval cooperation, air force training, and high-level defense dialogues. This defense policy dialogue is considered an important step towards further broadening and modernizing their strategic partnership.
