Senior Lawyer Praises Resignations of Trust Officials Amid Controversy

Howrah, June 26: Senior lawyer P.N. Mishra has welcomed the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, calling it a commendable step. He stated that this move will pave the way for a fair investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir. However, he emphasized that public suspicion regarding misappropriation remains.

In an exclusive interview, Mishra noted that reports indicate Rai and Anil Mishra have stepped down from their positions within the Trust. He believes their resignations are highly commendable, especially for those accused of misusing Trust funds. This decision should eliminate any doubts regarding the investigation’s integrity. Yet, he pointed out that previous investigations have not fully assuaged public concerns about potential collusion and theft.

Mishra expressed deep sorrow and shock over the incident, highlighting that the Ram Mandir is not merely a building but a center of faith for millions of Hindus. He referenced ancient scriptures, stating that anyone involved in the theft of offerings would face severe consequences. This Trust is not an ordinary one; it was established under an act by the Government of India, following directives from a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court. Therefore, he argued, the investigation cannot be conducted by any executive officer, including the Chief Secretary or Cabinet Secretary, as they may have conflicts of interest.

He urged the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the investigation is conducted by the judiciary. Mishra suggested that a five-judge committee be formed, similar to the one that heard the case, with representation from all major sects and akharas.

Mishra concluded by stating that donations made by the public are for divine purposes, not personal gain. He reiterated that the funds should be used for charitable works, including hospitals and shelters. He welcomed the resignations of the two officials, urging all remaining trustees to follow suit immediately. Holding onto their positions would be unethical, he asserted, and all trustees should resign to facilitate a fair investigation and restore faith in the Ram Mandir.
