New Delhi, June 27: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again threatened to impose a 100% tariff. This warning comes amid discussions among several European countries about implementing a digital services tax on American companies.
Trump stated that if any European nation enacts such a tax, the U.S. will respond by imposing a 100% tariff on all goods imported from that country.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump remarked, “Many European countries are soon discussing a digital services tax on American companies. Some of these nations are very close to implementing it.”
He added, “Please consider this statement as an official notice: any country that imposes such a tax will face an immediate 100% tariff on all goods coming from that nation.”
This 100% tariff would supersede any existing or future trade agreements with that country. It means that regardless of whether a trade deal has been signed or is currently in effect, this tariff will still apply.
Should these countries decide to implement the tax, the 100% tariff will take effect immediately.
Trump’s “tariff genie” has previously caused issues for various nations. During the conflict with Iran, he utilized tariffs as a weapon, warning multiple countries that all goods exported to the U.S. would face tariffs of up to 50% without any exemptions.
At that time, to defeat Iran in the war, Trump declared that any country supplying military weapons to Iran would face an immediate 50% tariff on all goods sold to the U.S., with no allowances or concessions.
