Unknown Attack on Ever Lovely Ship Raises Concerns in Singapore

Singapore, June 27: The container ship ‘Ever Lovely,’ registered in Singapore, suffered minor damage from an unknown attack while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. All 21 crew members aboard are safe, and the vessel has continued on its journey after crossing the strait. This information was confirmed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Friday.

The MPA expressed deep concern over the incident, stating, “This attack was unprovoked, lacked any legitimate reason, and constitutes a violation of international law.”

They emphasized that all maritime operations must adhere to international regulations, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to ensure the safety of vessels and seafarers at sea.

On the same day, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued a warning regarding an attack on a cargo ship near the coast of Oman, which resulted in damage to its bridge but no casualties.

UKMTO reported that the cargo ship was struck by an unidentified object approximately 7.5 nautical miles southeast of the Dhahirah region in Oman. The ship’s captain confirmed that no crew members were injured, and the incident did not harm the environment.

Authorities are currently investigating this incident, and UKMTO has advised vessels passing through the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities.

Additionally, on Thursday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that only routes authorized by Iranian authorities are permitted for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement released on its official news site, Sepah News, the IRGC warned that navigating outside these designated paths is dangerous and prohibited. The statement stressed that all vessels must use only the routes specified by Iran, as straying from these paths poses significant risks.
