New Delhi, June 27: In a significant development regarding the Ram Temple donation scandal, Champat Rai, the General Secretary of the pilgrimage trust, and trustee Anil Mishra have resigned. Justice Sudhir Agarwal characterized their decision as personal, stating he could not comment further.
In an interview on Friday, he expressed that the Ram Temple, regarded as a symbol of Hindu faith and a cornerstone of India’s identity, has been marred by corruption in its donation box. This incident has undoubtedly dealt a severe blow to the faith of Hindus.
Justice Agarwal lamented the unfortunate reality that the temple, where Hindus generously donated to express their devotion, has been subjected to exploitation. He questioned what could be more unfortunate than this situation.
He also connected this issue to historical contexts, comparing it to the attacks on Hindu temples by Mahmud of Ghazni, which remain unforgiven to this day. He asserted that those involved in the donation box scandal should not be forgiven either. According to current laws, this matter falls under cognizable offenses, warranting strict action.
Justice Agarwal acknowledged that many temples receive substantial donations. However, he noted that the trust was established specifically for constructing the temple, which has now been successfully completed. Their role should conclude here, as they lack the capability to manage the temple’s daily operations, donation management, and crowd control. He suggested that a separate trust should be formed, comprising individuals with the necessary expertise to ensure effective management of the temple’s affairs.
