New Delhi, June 30 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe rainfall alert as the monsoon intensifies across the country. Widespread showers have brought much-needed relief from the summer heat, but they have also triggered flooding concerns in several areas. The IMD forecasts that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue for the next 6 to 7 days across various parts of North-West, Central, and Eastern India.
Temperature Drops, Flood Fears Rise
Regions like Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh have recorded substantial rainfall over the past 24 hours. The rain has caused temperatures to drop by several degrees, offering a respite from the intense summer heat that gripped these areas earlier this month.
However, states like Himachal Pradesh and Assam are now facing the threat of flood-like situations due to continuous and heavy rainfall. River levels are rising, and landslides have been reported in some hilly regions.
IMD’s Rainfall Warning: States on Alert
The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the following states:
North and Central India: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh
East India: Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal
West India: Gujarat Region
North-East India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura
South India: Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana
Western Coastal Belt: Konkan & Goa, Saurashtra & Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra
Himalayan Belt: Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Andaman Islands
Delhi NCR Weather Update
Delhi-NCR has been witnessing light to moderate rainfall with strong winds and thunderstorms since early Monday. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the region and expects similar weather to continue for the next 24 hours. The rain has also improved air quality levels, offering double relief to residents battered by pollution and heat.
Key Advisory from IMD
People in flood-prone or landslide-susceptible areas are advised to remain alert.
Farmers should take precautionary measures for crop safety.
Urban residents are advised to avoid waterlogged areas and ensure proper drainage in homes and societies.
Local administrations are on standby for emergency response and rescue operations.
