Ludhiana, June 13: Under the Punjab government’s ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ initiative, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains visited Ludhiana on Friday. He toured various areas of the city to inspect sanitation efforts. During his visit, he engaged with sanitation workers and officials to review ongoing activities at the ground level.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur spoke to reporters, stating that Minister Bains’ visit was unannounced, which was appreciated by the locals. She mentioned that he observed development projects and interacted with residents. The minister also provided several suggestions for improvement, which will be implemented.
Kaur noted that after touring several areas, the minister held a meeting with officials, offering them guidance and directives. Continuous development work is underway in Ludhiana, with a focus on ensuring that residents face no difficulties.
The mayor indicated that Minister Bains is expected to return in ten days to review the progress of development projects and to discuss the implementation of the orders given during this visit.
Minister Harjot Bains, while addressing the media, reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to making Ludhiana a clean and beautiful city. As part of Mission Clean Punjab, officials are monitoring sanitation efforts daily from 7 AM to 8 AM. During inspections across various sectors, immediate corrective measures were directed wherever deficiencies were found. Direct communication with sanitation workers was also established to hear their concerns and suggestions.
He emphasized that, considering the upcoming monsoon season, a special plan is being developed to address issues related to sewer overflow and waterlogging. Areas facing sewer and drainage problems will be prioritized for resolution. The government’s aim is to transform the entire city into a ‘Zero Manhole City.’ To achieve this, certificates will be obtained from each councilor and junior engineer (JE) confirming that there are no open manholes in their respective areas.
