New Delhi, April 27: Actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) regarding the controversy surrounding the song “Sar Ke Chunar Teri Sar Ke” from the Kannada film “KD The Devil.” The song faced allegations of containing offensive lyrics towards women. Following these complaints, the NCW took the matter seriously and summoned the involved parties for clarification. In this context, Sanjay Dutt presented himself before the commission.
Dutt issued a written apology to the NCW, stating that it was never his intention to hurt the sentiments of society or women in any way.
During the hearing, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar raised several critical questions. She inquired whether those involved in the song or its production had considered its potential impact on society beforehand.
The commission emphasized that when an artist engages in a project, their responsibility extends beyond mere acting. They must also ensure that the content conveys a positive message to society. This responsibility is even greater for popular artists, as their influence can affect millions.
The NCW also questioned whether adequate research and caution were exercised before creating the content.
During the proceedings, Sanjay Dutt announced a significant step regarding this issue. He expressed his understanding of his societal responsibilities and decided to cover the educational expenses for 50 tribal girls.
Additionally, Dutt assured that he would implement thorough legal and ethical scrutiny for all his future projects. He stated that every agreement would include a provision to ensure that any content accepted would respect the dignity of women and children.
Actress Nora Fatehi’s name also emerged in this case, as she was summoned to appear before the commission. However, she was out of the country at that time and could not attend. She has requested the commission to allow her to appear on a different date. Previously, several other individuals and production members related to this case have also appeared before the commission.
