Farhan Akhtar Reflects on His Journey from Direction to Acting

Mumbai, June 18: Actor, director, and producer Farhan Akhtar began his career in direction and spent many years working behind the camera. However, opportunities gradually arose that encouraged him to step in front of the camera. Today, he is recognized not only as a successful director but also as a formidable actor. In a recent interview, he openly discussed his journey and experiences.

Speaking about his transition to acting, Farhan Akhtar stated, “My inclination towards acting did not happen suddenly; it was the result of various experiences over time. Initially, I only saw myself as a director, but certain projects changed my perspective. When I acted for the first time, I realized that working in front of the camera offers a completely different experience, with a unique kind of creativity hidden within it. This realization became a significant turning point in my career.”

Farhan shared insights about his early acting experiences, saying, “A friend of mine, Anand Surapur, was making the film ‘The Fakir of Venice’ and wanted me to play the lead role. Initially, it felt like a new experiment for me, as I had never acted before. But once I started working on the film, I began to enjoy it. I felt a different kind of happiness from acting, distinct from directing.”

He continued, “Later, I met director Abhishek Kapoor, and during this time, I got the film ‘Rock On.’ This film changed the direction of my career. Working on it allowed me to understand the world of acting closely. The story, characters, and music brought me even closer to acting. This film was not just a project for me; it was an experience that inspired me to continue acting.”

Farhan explained, “After ‘Rock On,’ I realized that there are vast possibilities in acting, and I could improve further. With this mindset, I worked on several films, including ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,’ ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,’ and ‘Dil Dhadakne Do.’ I feel fortunate that audiences have appreciated my characters. With each film, my confidence grew, and acting became a strong part of my career.”
