Mumbai, June 18: Divyendu Sharma, known for his role as Munna Tripathi in the popular series ‘Mirzapur,’ has garnered a massive fan following. His hard work and talent have helped him carve out a unique identity in the industry. During a recent interview, when asked what Munna Tripathi would say if he met the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, Divyendu smiled and replied, “You should become our father.” This witty response has sparked much discussion.
Born on June 19, 1983, in Delhi, Divyendu graduated in Political Science from Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi. His interest in acting blossomed during his college years, leading him to actively participate in college theater before training at FTII in Pune.
After honing his acting skills, he moved to Mumbai, where he faced significant struggles initially. In several interviews, he shared that work was scarce in his early days. Before landing film roles, he worked in numerous advertisements and faced financial hardships. At one point, he saved small amounts of money daily to ensure he could afford meals. However, he remained persistent and continued auditioning.
In 2007, he landed his first role in the film ‘Aaja Nachle,’ but it was a minor part that did not bring him recognition. The real turning point came in 2011 when he appeared as ‘Liquid’ in ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama.’ His performance was so well-received that he quickly became a topic of conversation. For this role, he received the Best Male Debut award, marking the beginning of his recognition in the industry.
Following this, Divyendu appeared in films like ‘Chashme Buddoor,’ ‘Ikka Toh Pyaar,’ ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha,’ and ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu.’ While his performances were praised, he did not achieve the stardom he had hoped for. The most significant shift in his career occurred in 2018.
The web series ‘Mirzapur,’ released on an OTT platform, changed his fortunes. His portrayal of Munna Tripathi captivated audiences, making him a household name. His style, dialogues, and screen presence resonated with viewers, and he is still affectionately referred to as ‘Munna Bhaiya.’ He later appeared in projects like ‘Bichhoo Ka Khel’ and ‘The Railway Man,’ where his work received acclaim.
Divyendu considers Amitabh Bachchan his inspiration. In a playful interview, when asked how Munna would react if he met Bachchan, he humorously suggested, “It’s better not to say anything in front of Bachchan Sahib, but if I must, I would say, ‘You should become our father.'”
He has received several accolades for his performances, including the Best Male Debut award for ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ and multiple nominations for his role in ‘Mirzapur.’ Today, he is recognized as one of the most talked-about actors in the OTT space.
