Noida, February 9: Anger erupted on the streets of Noida once again on Monday over the long-standing issue of power supply in the flood-prone areas. Under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, hundreds of residents from nearly 40 colonies marched to the electricity office in Sector 16, demanding reliable electricity. Protesters waved the national flag and held placards with slogans like “Give us electricity” and “Electricity is our right.”
The march began at the Haroula wedding hall in Sector 5, where residents gathered before proceeding on foot along the industrial road, through the roundabout, and down DSC Road towards the Sector 15 metro station, finally reaching the electricity office in Sector 16. To maintain order, traffic was temporarily halted along the routes taken by the marchers.
After the march concluded, normal traffic resumed. Hundreds of people arrived at the electricity office, where they began their protest, vocally criticizing the electricity department. In response to the demonstration, a heavy police presence was deployed to ensure law and order, with multiple police stations, including the ADC and two ACPs, monitoring the situation.
Sukhbir, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, addressed the crowd, stating that it is the responsibility of the electricity corporation to provide power to every citizen in the district. He emphasized that millions living in the flood-prone areas are still deprived of this essential service. The lack of electricity has also disrupted water supply, making life extremely difficult for approximately 250,000 residents. He noted that this situation adversely affects children’s education, the health of the elderly, and daily activities.
Sukhbir warned that the protest would continue until power supply is restored in the flood-prone areas, and if necessary, they would surround local MPs and MLAs.
Participants in the protest expressed frustration, stating that elected representatives come to seek votes during elections but neglect their issues afterward. They highlighted that despite years passing, power supply in the flood-prone areas has yet to be established. Protesters made it clear that they are determined to fight for their rights and will not back down in the face of adversity.
